I think the advantage Generation X has (there are lots and lots of them in the blogosphere) is a lack of fear. They are not worried about breaking the computer or doing something that cannot be fixed. I'm about half as brave because I'm not worried about breaking anything. My mother and mother-in-law, however, think even using a computer is frightening. My grandchildren are so comfortable that they want their own laptops, more memory, faster drives, and better video. Too bad I don't have them nearby; they could help me make my blog more interesting. I'll keep bravely plugging away. It's good for "mature" people to challenge their brains.

Learning the technology
As I have found new blogs to read, I notice how many seem to have such comfort with computer technology. Many have pictures--lovely pictures--with captions every day. Some have clever formats and backgrounds, with sections for other information, some have music (although I'm not crazy about that). I'm not sure how to do any of that. I've been blogging for just a few months and I have learned a few things: I've edited my profile, changed my format a couple of times, and added links and a few labels. There is still a lot to learn.

Hi Jo! I'm a Gen Xer, but feel much the same! I'll keep plowing, too. Maybe I'll even start writing a blog and send you link. :) Becca
i'd be happy to help you with your blog, putting on photos is a snap. just upload photos from your digital camera to your computer then when you are typing in text for your blog, you'll see an icon above the typing that is square and looks like a photo, its the second from the right.
the first icon is for video, but just click on the second icon and it will bring up a dialog box to look on your computer for the photo you want to use and asks if you want it centered, right or left of your text and what size small, medium or large. just follow the directions and you will soon have a photo.
click on the preview button on the right side of your text box to see if you like it. photos always come in html code if you have that tab clicked, the other tab is compose. just play around, it won't break. honest. if you want to move the photo elsewhere than at the beginning of your blog just cut and paste it elsewhere then preview and see if you like it. good luck
Oh, Jo... I know what you mean. Dina of Jerusalem Hills had to coax me to get started on the blog and then walk me through by e-mail. I'm still learning, making mistakes and learning some more. It really is so much fun though and perhaps keeping my brain from rusting.
I can empathize with your computer challenges. I was computer phobic for a long time. I often went to computer class with the kids. I asked them questions and they showed me how to do stuff. The mere fact that you are blogging is testament to your spirit. My niece Katie set up my blog-I'm new at this too. We have a very similar rdg/lang teaching background, too.
Jo..when I first started my blog, I had it set so nobody could see it and I never thought anyone would see it. I play with the settings for fun on bad weather days. It's not hard, just time consuming....
If you don't like my music, you can scroll to the bottom of my blog and pause it on the play list. If you are feeling ambitious and want to customize your background, I can send you the directions.
send me your email so i can help you with your photo. i think we live in the same town or near each other. lin
