More careless spelling

I have run onto a rash of careless spelling lately.  I can't explain why these misspelled words jump at me, yet seem to hide from those who should care.  My mother says I get it from her mother. She used to notice too.

A lovely, colored wedding invitation spelled cordially wrong.  A man and his son were putting color, professionally printed business cards on cars in a parking lot.  The word specialize was misspelled. A young woman who notarized my signature for me handed me her card. The problem there was representative.

Now if you're writing a shopping list, a note to self (I do that a lot), a letter to family or friends, it doesn't matter if spelling is a bit lackadaisical. Who cares?  But, if you are printing something to distributed or posted for public viewing, shouldn't you care enough to check it?

My husband is always correcting books, newspapers, news programs and sends off an e-mail.

we all need a second pair of eyes to edit anything official or being printed off. Even then mistakes creep me. Ask me I know!!!

Major newspapers and magazines consistantly have misspelled words in their articles, And I don't need to tell anyone who's ever read a comment that I've left, that I rarely spell check. I know I should... I'm always sorry when I don't... but, what can I say?
I do agree with your main point. I'd not be a happy camper if I got sloppy and left something misspelled on my business cards.

Yesterday I had a dr. appt. at the pulmonary specialist's office. In the room was a computer printed sign that said: If you need prescription's, be sure to mention it.
As I left, I caught the eye of a nurse, and asked her if there was any white-out. When I showed her the sign, she said."Oh yeah.. we know...we tried to scratch out the apostrophe with a pen."
??!!?? That merely made it worse.

Small town business signs drive me crazy. Apparently few buisnesses in Lehi, Utah realize that if your name is on a business sign saying you own the business..you are showing possession and need to add an 's:
Powell's auto-- NOT Powells auto, or Carina's restaurant--not Carinas restaurant. I've mentioned this to several of the offending business owners and a couple have fixed their signs. The others didn't care to make
any changes because..wait..wait..here's their response...No one would notice or care.

DUH.
